The challenges of Appalachian Farming can be seen firsthand at the Appalachian Farming Research Center. The Research Center develops "best practices" for crop and soil management in light of the region’s characteristics, namely steep terrain and erosion.
We will stop at Tamarack: The Best of West Virginia, the nation’s first showcase of a region’s handcrafts, fine arts, and cuisine.
We will conclude with a visit to the Exhibition Coal Mine. Traveling 1500 feet beneath the ground, visitors ride by authentic "mine cars" from the mine entrance, to old working areas of the coal mine, and back. Stops throughout the tour explore the history of low-seam coal mining.
